As commercial director, one of Peter Hofwegen’s responsibilities is Van Oers’s commercial development. In addition to many years of experience in the financial sector, Peter also brings a culture of enterprise and enthusiasm to the table. His vision: “You must possess great knowledge about the subject matter, but as a person you make the difference and all success starts with enthusiasm.”
‘All success starts with enthusiasm’
‘In my previous position as corporate district director at ABN AMRO, I had dealings with Van Oers for many years. It says a lot about Van Oers’s innovative business spirit that I as an “outsider” was immediately trusted with this new executive position in early 2014, since unlike many colleagues I do not have a background in accounting or tax. My background originally lies in industrial engineering and management science (Institute of technology (HTS)) and I have a lot of experience in commerce and knowledge of financial matters. I have furthermore built up an extensive network in the western part of Brabant and in Zeeland thanks in part to my supervisory board membership at investment company N.V. Indumij - Aangenaam Bergen op Zoom, as a member of the board at Stichting Ondernemersgala Bergen op Zoom and memberships of various business clubs.
Structuring acquisition activities and maintaining contact with clients are important aspects of my job. I also focus on giving banking and management advice and on supervising young professionals. Van Oers gives me all the freedom I need to give shape to these duties as I see fit, which also allows me to further develop my own entrepreneurial skills. I focus on success; that is what drives me. Sometimes this also means dealing with setbacks. Among other things, I hone the skills needed to do so during the many sports activities in which I participate.
I have many sporting interests, which vary from playing tennis and golf, to going to the gym and from ice skating to cycling and skiing. My private life and work life are intertwined. My wife – the love of my life for whom I left Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel and moved to Zegge in Brabant – supports me in every way. She knows better than anyone else how much I enjoy my job: sparring with companies and assisting in creating successes for them. As soon-to-be parents, we will, however, have to find a new rhythm in 2014, but I am sure we will find our way.’
